This environmentally friendly vehicle has a small unique design that makes it easy to zip around town, but also fun to drive. The i-MiEV features a high capacity, Lithium-ion battery pack with 16 kilowatts of total energy. The battery pack was specifically developed for iMiEV by a Mitsubishi joint venture company and not a third party. The battery pack has 22 modules that are designed to be installed in either a vertical or transverse position, so they fit under the floor which creates a lower centre of gravity this in turn produces superior handling. Mitsubishi believes so strongly in this technology that we are backing it with an 8 year, 160,000 kilometer battery limited warranty.
 
Not only is the i-MiEV fun, Mitsubishi has also made it one of the safest electric vehicles on the road today, as it is the first electric vehicle to receive a 4 star safety rating from EURONCAP. (please see video below)

 

 

 

 
 
 

 

 

There are three ways to charge the i-MiEV. The recommended way is with what is commonly referred to as a Level 2, 240 volt Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or EVSE residential charging dock, which is easy to have professionally installed. The second charging method is through a Level 1, 120 volt portable charging cable. Its use requires a dedicated 15 amp circuit. The third method is the Direct Current or DC quick charge public charging station that takes dvantage of i-MiEV's standard quick-charger connector port located on the driver side of the vehicle.

 

The technology behind the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is so advanced, that it was able to help out in a time of need. Mitsubishi Motors to Launch MiEV Power BOX 1500 Watt Power Feeder for its Electric Vehicles
Tokyo, March 9, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today that it will bring to market on April 27 the new MiEV power BOX power feeder which is capable of supplying large amounts of electrical power from an electric vehicle (EV). Supplied by a Mitsubishi Group affiliate, the MiEV power BOX will be offered as a dealer option for the company's i-MiEV *1 and MINICAB-MiEV EVs and will carry a manufacturer's recommended tax-inclusive price of 149,800 yen.

The MiEV power BOX is an adapter that plugs into the i-MiEV or MINICAB-MiEV's quick charging connector and is capable of supplying up to 1500 watts of AC electricity from the power stored in the vehicle's drive battery. It has been designed mainly to power household electrical appliances either when away from home or in an emergency. When connected to a fully-charged 16.0 kWh battery-equipped model the MiEV power BOX can supply 1500 watts of power for between five and six hours, equivalent to the amount consumed by an average Japanese household in a single day.
 
Much attention is currently being focused on the storage capabilities of high capacity EV batteries as a power source for use in major disasters and other emergencies. This comes at a time when solar power, wind power, and other recyclable energy sources are being promoted and the near-future implementation of "smart grids" which will allow the more effective use of electrical power. More and more people are looking to the EV both in terms of its traditional role of addressing environmental issues and also as a means of addressing ever-growing pressures on the demand and supply of energy. To meet these expectations MMC is pushing forward research and development into related technologies, one of which is the MiEV power BOX.

Mitsubishi Motors' i-MiEV Chosen as Canada's Most Fuel Efficient Subcompact Vehicle
Tokyo, February 24, 2012 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's (MMC) 100% electric-powered zero-emission i-MiEV was officially recognized yet again for its fuel efficiency in another country, this time Canada. The i-MiEV was chosen by Canada's Ministry of Natural Resources (NRCan), as the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the subcompact class. When comparing the i-MiEV against vehicles chosen by NRCan*1 in other classes, data shows the i-MiEV is Canada's most fuel-efficient car among them all.
 
 
Shin Fujioka, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc., (MMSCAN) received NRCan's 2012 ecoENERGY for Vehicles Award for the subcompact class at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on February 16, 2012.
 
"This is a great honor for the i-MiEV," said Mr. Fujioka. "This achievement speaks to what the marketplace needs as we strive to improve our environment and protect our planet's future. We are heartened by the Canadian government's findings that the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is the right vehicle for the Canadian marketplace."

The list of high-profile awards for the i-MiEV keeps growing. The all-electric, zero-emission i-MiEV was chosen as the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the United States last year by the United States' Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)*2, thanks to its excellent EPA-rated fuel efficiency rating of 112 MPGe. Recently, the i-MiEV was named as the "Greenest Vehicle" by the United States' ACEEE non-governmental organization*3.
